The car’s whereabouts were unknown for over 50 years until the current owner tracked it down. Despite finding it in “lovely show condition,” the car was treated to a frame-off restoration by Prestige Thunderbird Inc. in Santa Fe Springs, California.
Prestige brought the car back to like-new condition but took extra care to retain as many of the original parts as possible and left most of the passenger compartment undisturbed.
Monroe’s car was a well-optioned bird. It was equipped with the continental spare tire, both the canvas and fiberglass “porthole” tops, power windows, seat and brakes, Ford-O-Matic transmission and rear fender skirts. It also received the 312 cubic-inch V8, which was rebuilt during the restoration. The odometer shows just over 30,000 miles.
